Here’s a thought I’d like to share…
The agreements that come from fear require us to expend a lot of energy, but the agreements that come from love help us to conserve energy and even gain extra energy. ~Don Miguel Ruiz (The Four Agreements)
Under what “agreements” do you operate? An agreement is any information that you have stored (consciously or unconsciously) that you use to decide how to live.
Do you find yourself filled with energy, or are you more likely to feel depleted and drained? The answer to that question will give you a hint as to whether you are living more from love or from fear.
When you find yourself depleted, don’t search outside yourself for the cause. Instead, ask yourself what motivates your thoughts, actions, and emotions when you’re in a specific circumstance. If you are operating out of Fear, Obligation, or Guilt (FOG) you are not operating out of love.
Love, or compassion, broadens our perspective and releases us from the constraints of our “what’s in it for me” or “what will happen to me” mentality. It opens us up to receive and to give.
Fear, obligation or guilt does exactly what the acronym (FOG) describes. It clouds our vision and makes us tighten up and act out of a need for safety rather than out of a desire to serve or love.
So (to continue the metaphor), when “driving”/operating in a FOG…
Slow down. Even pull over and wait a bit.
Get clear about where you are and where you truly want to go.
Ask any backseat drivers (those old agreements or voices in your head) to be quiet for a minute.
Proceed only when you’re ready to do so lovingly.
Wishing you loving agreements and lots of visibility,
Namasté Augusta
