Vision of Your Heart

Here’s a thought I’d like to share…

The “eyes of the mind” evaluate. The “eyes of the heart” see.

The following is an excerpt from Gay Hendricks’ book A Year of Living Consciously.

One of the beauties of the complex human mind is its ability to shift perceptions quickly. To illustrate this point, think of a glass of water filled to the halfway mark. You may think of it as half-empty or half-full, yet you can also shift to the exact opposite perception in the blink of an eye. Then consider another shift in perception. If you are seeing the glass through the “eyes of the mind,” you use the powers of the mind to make a judgment of whether the glass is half-empty or half-full.  If you made a shift to seeing through the “eyes of the heart,” you might simply feel grateful for the existence of water and a glass in which to carry it. You wouldn’t worry about whether it was empty or full… you would appreciate it as it is, for the gift of its existence. For today, experiment with seeing through the “eyes of the heart.”  Whenever you notice yourself judging, evaluating, or comparing things (seeing through the “eyes of the mind”) shift to appreciating them as they are.

I love this idea of the “eyes of the heart” and how clearly they see what the “eyes of the mind” are too busy evaluating.  We can too easily get bogged down or muddled without the clear vision of the heart. So, open your heart. Expand your vision. Relax the “eyes of the mind” and allow the “eyes of the heart” to truly see.

Wishing you the vision of your heart,

Namasté Augusta
