The Way She Wears Her Face

Here’s a thought I’d like to share…

A smile is the light in the window of your face that tells people you’re at home. ~Author Unknown

At the grocery store earlier this week, I saw a woman from quite a distance away and thought I recognized her, but it had been years since I’d seen her. When she turned to pick up some produce, I knew immediately it was who I thought it was because of her energy – her smile. She wasn’t talking with anyone or even looking at anyone. She was just picking out some apples. But she had this really cool, easy smile on her face – and that’s what I remembered! I was struck by how her smile wasn’t ABOUT anything – it was just the way she wears her face! I believe it is the years of wearing her face like that made her energy recognizable. I think my heart recognized her before my brain did.

Of course, we had a great chat, hugged a few times and went on our ways. But the feeling stayed…and I found myself wearing my face just like she had been wearing hers. She gave me her smile! I didn’t ask her if I could have it because I was sure she had plenty more where that one came from. I was reminded of this, from Rumi, “Don’t you know yet? It is your light that lights the world.” And just as lighting a candle from an already lit candle does not diminish the light of the first but simply adds more light for everyone, my friend’s smile made my heart smile, which in turn, made me smile.

As I write this, I’m smiling…it feels good to wear my face like this.

Wishing you a smile for your face AND for your heart…

Now…Go light the world!
