Here’s a thought I’d like to share…
“The obstacles in our path are the path. Every time we stretch beyond our resistance and our fear, we make a choice for life. And every time we choose life, we find that fear loses its grip on us.” ~ Rolf Gates (Meditations from the Mat)
With change comes challenge. No doubt. All the changes that are happening for me right now have presented countless challenges. I’ve told my husband since we married (35 years ago!), “I don’t want to build a house – ever! It’s simply too many decisions.” Now, when I look at him with wide eyes, mouth agape, and both my hands on my cheeks, he says, “Honey, it’s all okay. This is not a house, it’s a Center for CALM Living!” He thinks he’s much funnier than I do when he says that.
The myriad decisions that go into construction alone leave me dizzy, and then factor in the decisions that go along with transitioning into a temporary office, incorporating both our daughters into our practice, creating new programs, hosting and teaching a retreat, scheduling 2020, a wedding!
However, what my practice has taught me, and continues to teach me, is that all these decisions, hiccups, detours, and skinned knees are teachers on my path. They are not mistakes. They are chances for me to stop and take in what’s happening; to let go of some false sense of control and accept that life is a mystery and my desire for certainty will only cause me to constrict and miss the magic.
So, my path, in yoga as in life, has a few obstacles right now. It’s just “where I am” on the journey. And how lucky am I to have the strength, the determination, and a spiritual practice that illuminates true choice, to navigate this mysterious and wonderful journey?! Now if I can just remember that!
Wishing you the determination and mindfulness to stay on your path. Stretch beyond your resistance and fear to become who you are meant to be.
