Leave It Alone

Here’s a thought I’d like to share…

Muddy water is best cleared by leaving it alone. ~Alan Watts

Human nature begs us to go faster, get busier, fix it, or destroy it if the “it” is something unsettling or unpleasant. We have so little tolerance for “muddy water.” And yet, so much of what we encounter in life is a little muddy. We’re not wrong for wanting it to be clear; we just are trying to solve a problem with the same energy that created it in the first place.

So perhaps, allow some settling to happen. Step back. Look and see whose problem it really is. Are you trying to solve something that isn’t even yours to solve?

If it’s a muddy mind you’re dealing with, the same rule of thumb applies – leave it alone, stop embellishing the stories, look at what’s factual rather than what’s feared. Allow your energy to settle – like sand in water.

As the sand settles, the clarity rises, and skillful choices can more easily be made at that point.

Yoga is a practice of allowing. It cannot be achieved. It isn’t something to be gained. It’s already there. When we open our minds and our hearts – healing happens and clarity rises.

What’s something you could stand to leave alone for a bit?

Wishing you the courage and patience to let the mud settle,

Namasté Augusta
