Here’s a thought I’d like to share…
“Our greatest weariness comes from work not done.” ~ Eric Hoffer
Every time we put off work that must be done it gets harder to do. The dread we add to a task is at least as heavy as the task itself – sometimes heavier. Nike’s slogan – Just do it! has great merit.
Resistance, or dread, keeps us married to the task in an unpleasant way. We can’t let it go because it must be done, but we can’t get it done because we’re too invested in pushing it away. Getting our work done – whatever that is – is freeing. It releases our energy in a constructive way. The tired that comes from getting something done feels very different than the tired that comes from avoiding!
In yoga, our practice — even if it’s challenging — should leave us energized because we’re doing the work of showing up for ourselves! We commit to learning and growing and moving – and then we do it. “We show up, burn brightly and hold nothing back” – and it gives back the energy we put into it… and more.
When we’re bogged down in resistance, we are holding back. And when we hold back in one area, it tends to show up in other areas as well. So weariness increases in all areas when it’s prevalent in one area. What’s one task that you tend to resist? What if you just did it? Start small. Just give it a try and see if you don’t feel just a little less weary.
Wishing you the energy of work well done,
Namasté Augusta
