Here’s a thought I’d like to share…
We are responsible for the energy we bring into a room. ~Jill Bolte Taylor
“The room lights up when they walk in.”
“They just suck the energy out of the entire room.”
We all know people that we could describe in one of these ways. If you had the choice, which description would you prefer to be used about you? It’s an obvious choice, and yet we forget to be mindful of what kind of energy we are bringing with us wherever we go.
The other morning I hadn’t slept well and had a ton of things on my agenda for the day. Before I even got out of bed, I heard my very old dog make this awful noise as she threw up on the rug. It was disgusting. While I was cleaning that up, my husband, from the back of the house (who knew none of this), asked me a question. Well of course, at that point, it became his fault that I was tired, had a lot to do and that the dog had puked! Actually, about now, it was his fault we even had the dog. So, when I called back with, “What did you say?” is a tone that indicated his complete liability for all things bad, he said, “Never mind.”
Thankfully, hearing my own acerbic tone of voice woke me out of my “my-misery-is-your-fault” mode. I finished cleaning the mess, and as I washed my hands, I paused, let the water run over hands and just stood there and waited for the mud in my mind to settle a bit. My dog came up and affectionately thumped me with her tail as if to say, “Whew, I feel better.” I chuckled to myself, dropped my yucky energy, petted her head, and went to the back of the house to eat crow.
Taking responsibility for my energy released me from the stuck place I had been. Fortunately, my husband isn’t a grudge holder. (He’s pretty good at being responsible for his own energy.) And we could laugh about it all, and get on with the day.
Keeping perspective, dropping the blame, focusing on what we have rather than bemoaning what we don’t have, living with an attitude of gratitude – these are the keys that unlock our ability to choose the kind of energy we radiate. Life happens – our response to life is our “response-ability.” And in the words of Wayne Dyer, “How people treat you is their karma; how you respond is yours.”
Wishing you good karma and good energy,
