A Kind Soul

Here’s a thought I’d like to share…

“I don’t want gemstones or gold. I want… a steady hand. A kind soul.” ~ Shana Abe

David turns 60 on Monday, and we’re celebrating! This weekend, we’re just going to do a fun “getaway” weekend, but the true 60th birthday “adventure celebration” comes next March. We’re going sea kayaking in the pristine wilderness of the Sea of Cortez and camping on the Baja desert islands! How cool is that!? (I’ll have to tell you more about that as it gets closer.)

Anyway, most people that see David can’t imagine that he’s actually going to be 60. He does not look his age at all. (Whatever 60 is supposed to look like ???) But 60 is an age that has a different ring to it. …60… It’s not 50’s anymore. It’s a milestone; a worthy place to take notice, to pause, to consider what you really want to spend your time and energy on, to decide what really matters and what really doesn’t.

It’s that kind of reflection that made David decide he wanted to do an adventure that was outside the box. And lucky for me, he wanted me to experience it with him!

I say all that to get to this… David’s ability to look within and discern what truly matters to him, and then to act on that with dedication and wholeheartedness is inspirational and a gift he gives to those around him. It is one of his most defining characteristics. He has been that way at least since the day I met him, some 35 years ago.

He embraces his age because he embraces his life. He is steadfast in his love for me, his children, and his family. He does not shy away from doing the work that needs to be done – inner or outer. He operates from a loving heart. He takes good care of himself so that he can be there for others in his life. He laughs easily, studies everything, and is super strong and beautifully gentle. Above all, he is a kind soul.

So it may be HIS birthday, but it doesn’t escape me that I am the recipient of so many priceless gifts! And for these things, and for his presence and influence in my life, I am deeply indebted and forever grateful!

Wishing each of you the gift greater than gemstones and gold — the gift of a kind soul,

Namasté Augusta

P.S. Happy birthday David! May this new decade be filled with all the things that matter most. I love you!
